Troubleshooting Common Upright Vacuum Problems
Vacuum Won't Pick Up Debris
- Check the dust cup/bag — Empty if more than 2/3 full
- Inspect filters — Wash or replace clogged pre-motor and HEPA filters
- Look for clogs — Check the hose inlet, brush roll area, and suction path
- Examine the belt — A stretched or broken belt won't spin the brush roll
- Adjust height setting — Too high and the vacuum won't agitate; too low and it can't move
Vacuum Smells Burning or Bad
- Burning rubber smell — The belt is worn, stuck, or slipping. Replace immediately.
- Musty/mildew smell — Wet debris in the dust cup or dirty filter. Wash and dry completely.
- Pet odor — Hair and dander buildup. Clean brush roll, wash filters, empty cup after each use.
- Electrical smell — Turn off immediately. May indicate motor or wiring issue—contact service.
Brush Roll Not Spinning
